Dersut Optimum or Domus? Espresso beans compared

In Switzerland, Dersut offers two espresso blends in 1 kg packs: Optimum Rosso and Domus Marrone. Both come from the family roastery in Conegliano, roasting coffee since 1947, and both work in bean-to-cup machines, portafilter machines and moka pots. Yet they taste noticeably different. This comparison shows which beans suit you.

What they share: same origin, same care

Both blends are roasted in Conegliano in the Veneto region in two stages: a pre-roast at 150 °C, then the main roast at 210 to 220 °C, followed by air cooling. Electronic colour sorting checks every bean individually. Dersut holds the certifications "Espresso Italiano Certificato" and "Espresso Italiano di Qualità".

Both are sold as whole beans in the original 1 kg pack and suit all common brewing methods. In a fully automatic machine, a medium-fine to fine grind is recommended.

Dersut Optimum Rosso: the balanced all-rounder

Optimum Rosso is a blend of popular Arabica and Robusta varieties. It impresses with long-lasting crema, balanced body and notes of cocoa and pastry. Acidity is low and the finish is long. At intensity 4 out of 5, it is strong enough for a genuine Italian espresso while staying harmonious.

Its strength is versatility: as a straight espresso it tastes round, and in a cappuccino or latte macchiato its crema and cocoa notes hold their own against the milk. If your household has different tastes, Optimum Rosso is almost always the right call.

Dersut Domus Marrone: bold and decisive

Domus Marrone is a blend of Robusta and Arabica with a very intense aroma. It has a round body, a hint of baked goods and a finish of dried fruit. Its character is strong and decisive, with intensity 5 out of 5.

It is made for anyone who likes espresso full-bodied and strong, the way many bars in Italy serve it. Its character also comes through well as a ristretto or in a macchiato with a little milk. On top of that, Domus Marrone is the slightly more affordable of the two blends.
